Reboot of 2600 game, with mixed results.

News came from Atari that they are remaking the Atari 2600 Haunted House, for the Wii, Xbox live arcade, and the PC. Haunted House was one of the first games to pioneer the suvival horror genre. The orginal game a bit dated by todays standards, the updated version of thea game will be a scary romp the whole family can enjoy. Yes another family romp through a childish horror game, I thought Grabbed by the Ghoules was enough never to bring this crap back.
Should we even reamke games anymore? Should we reboot or just let our memories serve us well and keep the past in the past? Do the remakes and reboots that come to market worth the time and effort put into them? What if any games would you like to see remade or revamped?
Here is a picture of the 2600 game

Im a total nostalgic(ist). Leave the game the way it is and build a new game with a slightly different plot, and have it standalone.

I don’t mind a remake as long as they stick to the core of what made the original so great.

I agree a little bit with everyone, if they can keep what made the orignal great and maybe just update the visuals, i.e. Perfect Dark on the XBLA, or if they can just make suttle changes to the game play and keep the core elements, i.e. Pac Man Championship Edition, then by all means an update would be welcome. But such remakes like Golden Axe or Bionic Commando are ones that were better left back in the golden age of gaming.(that’s excluding the Bionic Commando Rearmed that game was fantastic.)But someone please, I want a re-tooled version of Advent Rising. It was one of my favorite if not my favorite xbox game but the tech was not up to the challenge. Great music, epic story, good voice acting, solid controls, the engine just could not keep up.

I am also in agreement that if they can make a new version that reflects the originals core elements, then go ahead. There are some remakes that should have been left alone, but others that made us go WOW! So, it all comes down to how well it is remade and what updated graphics will catch the attention of todays buyer.

Scrotus in a way, yes it is. But the million dollar give away was Majesco’s blunder. The same guys that did Advent Rising made one of my favorite games of last year, Shadow Complex. As it’s been shown give these guys the right tools and time frame, a Advent Rising reboot and it could be epic!

It’s funny you say epic beening that shawdow complex is a great game but with out the backing of EPIC no one would have heard of it. also, I find it hard to believe that you would put advent rising above Knights Of The Old Replblic as being one of your favorite games on the xbox!
