The Witcher Comes: Final Countdown

I don’t very often do previews because, well, everyone else on the planet and their mother does them but on this occasion I am going to make an exception for a game that blew my mind the first time I played it.  That game is The Witcher 2 and we are approaching the 12 hour countdown before it is available on steam to download.  You can bet your hard earned money that I will be downloading this the minute it is released so I can play it when I get home from work. The Witcher is one of the last few PC exclusives if not the last so it will be interesting to see how the game sells compared to it’s console brethren.  This is also an RPG and not a quick pick me up FPS that everyone is usedRead more…

Arise chicken, arise…..

After almost a month of the PlayStation Network being shut down due to a hack, Sony has begun it’s reactivation but it will take some time. Sony has issued a firmware update along with the reactivation so be sure to download and update online multiplayer functionality will be the first service to be resuscitated. There is a map available on the PlayStation blog that will highlight which cities and states are back up and running. To sign back into your PSN account you will be required to change your password which, after all that has happened, isn’t a bad idea. It’s been a long time since I have reported news but it feels good to report once again. Please give it some time and again check the map that is on the PlayStation blog to see when you can finally enjoy some onlineRead more…

CharcoalCoyote’s Qwop Challenge!

So, I’m sure many of you have seen this game called QWOP by now. It’s pretty old news, and the creator has already put out a new one called GIRP (which is just as hard, but in a different way.) If you’ve still not seen it, HERE is a link to the game on its home website. Most of you who have played have only stuck it out to the ten meter mark before ragequitting (I’ve made it to fifty meters three times, but never gotten past it.) So, I challenge you, TGB readers, staff, and whoever else would like to play: Beat QWOP. Go the distance. Run all the way to the end, and jump as far as you can. But why, you may ask? Why would I consume that much of your time? How about this; the winnerRead more…

How to become a Gamer Chick – A Simple Guide

Step 1.  Be of the female species.  This is very important.  Sex changes do not count unless you were predisposition towards the feminine as a male.  Also, please ensure that you are homo-sapien as bovine, lupine, or any other form of mammal, avian, reptile, or plant life is unacceptable due to the lack of cognitive thought and/or opposable thumb.  Once you’ve determined if you are indeed a homosapien female, you may proceed to step 2.  If you cannot prove that you are so, then this guide will simply be humor to you rather than something of use. Step 2.  Remember that as in all walks of life, gamer chicks can be beautiful or ugly, fat or skinny, nerdy or preppy (rare, but it happens).  It matters not to the game or those who you talk to on chat what youRead more…

Brink: First Impressions

Thanks to some awesome friends of mine I got a copy of Brink on pre-order and got to sit down and play it last night.  Being that I haven’t been able to play all of the way through it I thought I would give my initial impressions of the game.  Before I begin I want to clarify what Brink is.  Before I was gifted this game I had absolutely no idea what it was or what the point of the game was.  Brink attempts to be a combination of several games.  First and foremost Brink bears similarities to Team Fortress 2 and then tries to combine it with the likes of Borderlands.  There are even some Call of Dutyesq elements in the form of weapon unlocking and modifications and all of this comes without the annoying TF2 hats.  I’m sureRead more…

Explaining Gaming to Those Who Don’t Understand

I suppose as a former almost-educator, I should touch on the educational aspects of gaming.  I have had to defend my playing World of Warcraft, Halo, even Mario Cart and Super Smash Bro’s on my old N64 to my mother, a firm believer in activities that develop mental clarity and knowledge.   So, while this topic may not be about the newest game or an exciting review, it has to potential to be helpful to the younger readers that find themselves trying to defend themselves to the parental figures in their lives.  Now, I want to make something clear so I don’t have hate mail.  I am not going to make a clear cut list of what is educational about each game.  Instead, I am going attempt to help you learn to discern what parts you share with that nosy parentRead more…

What Happen? What You Say? Someone Set Us Up The Bomb!

For great justice!!! What happen?  What you say?  Someone set us up the bomb! All your base are belong to us! Bad English?  Perhaps… but these phrases have been spoken time and time again over the last two decades and have been used in countless videos, online games and forums across the world.   They have even been used in popular media and games like Half Life and Team Fortress.  You, yourself, are now probably wondering where they originated from. A side scroller game released in 1989, Zero Wing, is the source for all this.  It has been referred to as one of the worst translated games of all time and with good reason.  If you listen to the actual audio during the game it almost makes no sense.  That being said it’s amazing how a badly translated game can lead mass following ofRead more…

Wishing for a different type of MMO…..

I have played World of Warcraft. I play (once PSN comes back to life) D.C. Universe. I have tried EVE Online. As much as I like DCU (I hear the moans, it’s not that bad), it really does not hit nor represent what I want in a MMO, and nothing out there does. I love fantasy settings, WoW has a great setting but the combat doesn’t do it for me and the art style (while there are times I love it) looks like a Hanna Barbera cartoon. I want a MMO to make an alternate life in a world that I could never visit (no not Second Life), to be a world where every players actions affect the next player and so on and so forth. The idea I have in my head for my perfect MMO, is just that;Read more…
