Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Trailer and Impressions
Today the newest Trailer for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was released. After watching the trailer I’ve formed a few opinions about it. The first and most glaring is that it doesn’t look any different from Counter-Strike: Source. I was hoping, seven years after the release of source, that they could update the graphics engines.
Valve will be implementing cross-platform play for Counter Strike: Global Offensive and for those of you who don’t know what that is, cross-platform play means people on PC can play those on an Xbox and those who are on PS3 can play those on Xbox 360. While PS3 vs Xbox isn’t that big of a difference in terms of gameplay, PC vs either of the console systems is a huge difference. I forsee this being a catastrophe because the control difference between consoles and PC are completely different. Microsoft held a project a few years back to bring console and PC gaming togeather, they scrapped the project because “Microsoft pitted the best console players using control pads against “mediocre” PC gamers with mice and keyboards and found that the console players were “destroyed every time.” It was apparently so bad, he wrote, that cross-platform play would have been an embarrassment to the Xbox team.” — The Escapist .
I’m still waiting to see if Valve can bring anything new to the FPS genre with so many heavy hitter titles such as Bad Company, Call of Duty and Team Fortresss 2. Valve also hasn’t made it clear if they intend to compete with the major players in the industry. However, being that it is going to be a Xbox Live Arcade release I don’t think they are. I think this is a move to bring some more players back to it’s once #1 multi-player title.
What do you guys think?
